New Ride for Luna Park Melbourne
New Ride for Luna Park Melbourne
From the official site:
"After almost 10 years of dutiful service and many screams and laughs, the Shock Drop has moved on from Luna Park.
The ride is being replaced with a brand new thrill ride for Luna Park which is bound to set pulses racing and produce even bigger screams and laughs. The ride details are top secret, known only to a few Luna Park employees. We can tell you however that its 13.5m tall and 6.8m wide. It can take 12 people for each ride and is currently on a boat on its way from Italy from manufacturers of world class rides, Zamperla.
The new ride is hoped to be launched this side of Christmas. Updates will appear here approximately every two weeks."
Cheers,

Re: New Ride for Luna Park Melbourne
haha nice one Dell
. HUSSR this matches the specs more accurately. Should prove very popular.

the irrony is there were only 2 brand new rides purchased when the park was upgraded in 2001. One of them was the Moser Shock Drop, the other a Moser Red Baron, kiddy ride which is located right next to it. There are a lot of Shock Drops on the market, and the Luna Park one was quite a popular ride. maybe they have some niggling maintenance issues from high use. Anyone know what is happening to it? It will no-doubt appear somewhere in Australia, probably a small entertainment centre.

Re: New Ride for Luna Park Melbourne
had a feeling it would be the sky tower...... the place is getting worse and worse

Re: New Ride for Luna Park Melbourne
So... replace a freefall ride with another freefall ride? what the hell is the point of that? There are many other rides that luna park should invest in and this is NOT one of them!

Quote from 2005: "Mr Fox had vowed to "restore the magic", when he bought the site for $7 million in June 2005. He said the rejuvenation process would be a "labour of love", having fond memories of sneaking into the Giggle Palace as a boy."

Re: New Ride for Luna Park Melbourne
the Fox Consortium are shrewed investors, not only did they get the 100yr lease for a fraction of its face value, but they won't basically spend a cent on restoring the "nostalgia" till the Government matches them dollar for dollar.
Yes the ride replacement is a strange one, and both are very low capacity. The tower is not that high, but this may be due to local St Kilda Council building restrictions, more than purchase cost of said ride.

Thanks Zamperla - I reckon a used Mangels Whip with two 10 foot scary clowns on the rotation wheels would be a cheaper and more nostalgic addition to the park! (i'm still living in the 70s,,,,)

Luna Park Melbourne has unveiled two new rides for upcoming school holidays — The Coney Island Top Drop and the Rock ‘n’ Tug.
Built by Zamperla, The Coney Island Top Drop will stand almost 15 metres in height, making it visible from the famous St Kilda beach.
The Rock ‘n’ Tug — a more family-friendly attraction — will simulate the rocking, dipping and twirling fun of a tugboat in rough seas.
The Coney Island Top Drop is slated to open in January, while the Rock ‘n’ Tug will open on 18 December.

Re: New Ride for Luna Park Melbourne
At least they are adding something with the coney island name... I guess. But what was the point replacing Shock Drop with the new drop apart from Moser rides generally being unreliable. I mean it's only a 5m difference!
