Faller Space Roller Construction

Post by HUSSRAINBOW »

So it begins, my 10th model. The Faller Salto Mortale, the Mondial replica of the awesome ride we love, Space Roller.
As shown on the box etc, the model is replicated from a unit overseas called SALTO MORTALE, So in tradition with the Rainbow model, i've taken on the challenge of replicating Watkins "Hoefnagels" Space Roller. This thread will show all the pictures of the process. Video's will be coming as I progress further into the model.

JANUARY 12:
Day one consisted of the gear work to drive the rising of the main arm, and turning of the gondola arm and also the "trailer" for where the main arm is held.

JANUARY 13:
So, the tough work begins, as the model doesn't come with any of the decorations that a traditional Space Roller has, I have to make the pieces out of scrap plastic parts. It was kinda tricky but it looks ok, i'm rather happy with the outcome.

More pix soon, plus a test video!

January 15:
The main arm has been put together, and while waiting for parts from Germany, I today worked on the loading platform.
I started off by drawing up the design in Photoshop and adding it to the platform which I had scanned. Then printed that out and used it as a stencil. Also painted the platform silver, just like ours which is really shiny, and not that dull grey plastic colour. it's really beginning to look like the real thing! Next up, will be painting the gates yellow.

Paulie, you are an absolute moron, you were expecting more? haha, id LOVE to see you try build one of these models.
The restraints haven't been put on yet as im waiting on a order of people to put in the seats. The ride is obviously NOT FINISHED yet.
Seriously man, why are you even here, you aren't getting anywhere whatsoever.

Have you actually seen video's of the model that HUSS is making? 500 Dollars is a lot of money to spend, and I'm sure if he didn't think it was worth it he would have brought it. If I had the money, time or patience I would have brought one of these model's myself. And modelmaking is a very common hobbie these days, and I'm sure Rides / Carnivals are NOT his only hobby, and he also has a life.

Yes they do flip.... And for $500, its nice to be able to speak to the owner of Space Roller, and have him be pretty excited to see it aswell. I will be showing them when its done, to show off in the control booth.
I do have a life, and having this industry as such a high interest, its good to share in a bit of that by having this HIGH QUALITY model!

Great work. One more thing - the sign on the main hub. great attention to detail there.

I never knew you had a model HUSS Flipper?!! (I had the pleasure of riding it at Munich Oktoberfest - absolutely superb to ride - when it starts spinning it leaves your stomach behind)
