EKKA Work

Hey, does anyone know of any showmen needing staff to work on there rides at EKKA this year? I know I cant work as a operator on the rides, and I'm not 100% on harness checking though. But I would be able to work in ticket boxes. I'm trying to save up for a trip to America next year so any work I can get is good work lol. If anyone is able to assist in any way it would be appreciated. I've applied to work in the Showbag Pavilion this year and I've been shortlisted, but of course i'd much rather the rides!

I did notice there were quite a few rides at the rocky show with sign saying ride attendants wanted for that show
Years ago I worked the rides at our local show Dodgems and Materhorn mostly is was good fun
So I reckon you'd have a chance at the ekka and I'm sure someone here will be able to put you in touch with some people Goodluck
Look forward to hearing about your experience working on a ride

I think 'harness checking' is well within your capabilities Hurri.
Dodgems is always a challenge at a show and a bit of fun with usually half a dozen staff assisting the floor. (can be frustrating though!)
Don't accept your showbag position either without sussing out other options on the rides. It is a 'no-brainer' decision as to which one you'd enjoy more. You may have to go for a walk around the grounds as they are setting up (you may get more than one offer for work too that you'll have to decide on) - decide on which ride you'd most prefer to work on, and work backwards from there.

Surly we have some connected people on HERE, that could give Hurri a hand, (no pun intended), I would not work on Dodgems, dirtest, also imo, most likely to hurt yourself, though if you like getting down and dirty?, ticket boxes are for girls and old ladies

and I dont think they have them at capitals,(I could be wrong).
Let me write a reference, hard working, (sounds good), honest, (absolutely), cheeky, (please see previous posts), great sense of humour, (no question), clearly adaptable (please see flood posts), has great passion, where this industry is concerned, can learn quickly. That about covers it.

Agreed - dodgems are a very physical ride to work - injuries are not uncommon.

LOL... Princess, that post nearly made me wet myself. I don't think anyone would want me working on dodgems though... given my uh...past track record! I am VICIOUS On them, I search and destroy hehe.

You'd be great working on the rides Hurricane. I reckon working a roller coaster such as Crazy Mouse or Galaxy would be a difficult job, especially when dispatching the cars and making sure there's enough room between each. One wrong move could be disastrous! I've heard No Limit is difficult to operate; Elwin Bell had specialist training from Mondial before he started travelling with it and apparently personally trains all staff.
Personally I would love to operate something like Space Roller, Super Loop, Ranger etc where rider interactivity is high. I know some people find this annoying but I would be talking to the riders, encouraging them to raise their hands, scream etc because I reckon it's a heap of fun and creates a great atmosphere for the passengers and passers-by. Of course I would also request a CD of tunes from Huss to go along with the whole experience!
Good luck with this Hurricane; keep us updated on your progress.

Just remember Ben,
"Scre...Sc...Scream if you want to go faster!" I'm just hoping I work on Zipper so Princess has NO excuse to not ride if she shows up. She can have a free ride on it, but if she
SPEWS she can get the hose

Boy you guys make me laugh! Loving the posts; keep them up!
Sounds like you've already got your first job offer Hurricane; go for it!
I once did apply for a job as a ride operator at Wonderland Sydney. I thought I would be okay at the job as they always had at least two people working the rides at one time. I told them I wanted to be in charge of pressing the buttons and operating the sound system even though it was used for talk and never music. I got a very polite knock back which of course I understood but it was worth a try I reckon.

Wow... you actually got a POLITE response from Sunway?! Or was this before they took over? I'm sorry but I always found Sunway's management to be total douchebags.

Hope you get a job Hurricane. Good luck anyway. Should ring Elwin Bell Snr and you could be the answer to his staffing problems and get the ThunderBolt back at the Ekka.

Thunderbolt is going to EKKA at this stage as far as I'm aware. Previous posts have said that it will be doing all the capitals again, just not rural shows.

Yes I thought it will be going. I'm glad that it will be back at the capitals this year. It is one of the best rides on the Aussie show circuit.

Yeah... Elwin, if your reading this post sign up if your not already registered and I'm happy to help with your staff shortages at Ekka! Maybe if you get enough staff you could bring your Hurricane up!

lol I love games, not,

give him a job please, then we can all relax.
Oh and welcome Limit. Maybe we could solve the staffing problems of Bells on this site, by offering work via this forum.

LOL... I can see it now,
www.rentashowmen.com.au! Listing jobs that are available at local shows etc.
And no... the idea of "rent a showmen" is strictly G rated for anyone playing at home!

Welcome the Limit, great to hear Thunderbolt will be at the ekka. And so will No Limit. Were has it been? Has it been down at Queanbeyan?

Hmmm... so going by what Oz said, Thunderbolt won't be going to Ekka. This means we will probably have to put up with Raupen Crap.
