ABC News, 8th October 2007

The owners of the Arthurs Seat Chairlift on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula have pleaded guilty over an accident in 2004 which left an elderly passenger with two broken legs.

The 77-year-old Preston woman was a passenger on the Mornington Peninsula chairlift in March 2004.

The carriage she was in came loose and slid into the one in front.

Both of her legs were crushed.

The company has pleaded guilty to failing to provide a safe environment for its customers.

It was the second serious incident for the chairlift.

In 2003, 65-people were trapped and 18-injured when part of the lift collapsed.

The company could be fined up to a quarter-of-a-million dollars for breaches to the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The hearing continues on Wednesday.
